Course Description:

OB 4 EMS: Advanced Obstetric Care for Prehospital Providers is one of the first and only comprehensive obstetric education programs designed specifically for prehospital professionals. Developed by a Critical Care Paramedic, Birth Doula, and Midwifery Student, this course was created to bridge the gap in obstetric education for EMS providers by addressing the routine and emergent situations they are likely to encounter in the field but often receive minimal or no formal training on during their initial education.

This flagship course combines and expands upon the content of The Obstetric Abdominal Exam and Managing Routine and Complex Deliveries, integrating both programs into a single, comprehensive learning experience while adding advanced content not covered in either course alone. Students will develop a thorough understanding of obstetric assessment, including the obstetric abdominal examination, management of routine and complex deliveries, maternal and fetal assessment, obstetric emergencies, medical and traumatic complications of pregnancy, postpartum complications, neonatal care, and critical decision-making in the prehospital environment.

Through engaging, evidence-based lectures, dynamic presentations, and hands-on training utilizing high-fidelity simulation and live actors, participants will gain practical experience managing realistic obstetric scenarios. Upon completion of the course, EMS providers will possess the knowledge, clinical skills, and confidence to deliver exceptional care to pregnant, laboring, postpartum, and neonatal patients across the full spectrum of prehospital obstetric emergencies.
